The Sordevolo Passion Play is a performance with two centuries of history, played every five years in Sordevolo, a beautiful hill village in the Province of Biella in the Italian region Piedmont, which is famous for its cultural treasures, unspoiled nature and many wine and food specialties. The Passion Play is a unique show of its kind in Italy as it involves all the 1,300 inhabitants of Sordevolo, more than 400 amateur and volunteer actors and 300 people behind the scenes, making it the biggest popular theatre in the country.

The choral play features 40 three-hour performances of 19 scenes in 100 days. It attracts 30,000 spectators from all over the world and is staged in an open-air amphitheatre of more than 4,000 sq m, that is transformed into a corner of the Holy Land and can hold up to 2,400 people.
